DAY 2 - 4: A MILLION ROSE FOR THE WORLD

BENIN

DAY 2 - OCTOBER 11, 2011


Benin was the seat of the medieval African Kingdom of Abomey until it was conquered by the French.  It is now one of Africa’s most stable democracies, though it faces sporadic clashes along its border with Burkina Faso and must deal with problems of human trafficking and forced recruitment.

SORROWFUL MYSTERIES:  INTENTIONS FOR BENIN

1.     For economic growth to life people out of poverty.
2.    For modernization of agriculture to improve the lives of farmers.
3.    For the poor to feel relief from reduction of foreign debt.
4.    For the people to have access to electricity.
5.    For the success of public health drives in slashing diseases like hepatitis A and typhoid.

BOTSWANA

DAY 3 - OCTOBER 12, 2011

Botswana has a flourishing constitutional democracy, with roots in Setswana traditions exemplified by the village council (Kgotla).  Its constitution has a code of fundamental human rights enforced by the courts.  Elections since independence have been freely and fairly contested.  The world’s largest producer of diamonds, Botswana protects large areas wilderness, including the Kalahari Desert.

GLORIOUS MYSTERIES:  INTENTIONS FOR BOTSWANA

1.     For development of other industries so as to reduce the country’s dependence on diamond mining.
2.    For the safety of laborers working in the diamond mines.
3.    For the promotion of tourism that conserves the environment.
4.    For effective control of the HIV /AIDS epidemic.
5.    For preservations of traditions that enrich a nation’s soul.

BURKINA FASO

DAY 4 - OCTOBER 13, 2011

The Mossi that make up about one-half of Burkina Faso’s population claim descent from warriors who established an empire that lasted 800 years.  It is today ethnically integrated secular state, with 80% reliance on agriculture.  Burkina Faso suffers from recurring droughts, and these hardships are compounded by a series of military coups and troubles with neighboring Sierra Leone and Cote d’ Iviore.

LUMINOUS MYSTERIES:  INTENTIONS FOR BURKINA FASO

1.     For peaceful resolutions of border disputes.
2.    For political will to stamp out illicit cross-border activities.
3.    For increase employment opportunities for farm laborers.
4.    For effective distribution of mosquito nets to control malaria.
5.    For good rainfall to ensures good harvests.

DAY 1: A MILLION ROSES FOR THE WORLD


Let us pray 5 decades of the Holy Rosary dedicated to
ANGOLA

Angola was colonized by the Portuguese, and became the largest source of slaves for the Americas.  It is one of Africa’s major oil producer but also one of the world’s poorest countries.  27 years of civil war ended in 2002; the country now faces the daunting task of rebuilding its infrastructure.

JOYFUL MYSTERIES:  INTENTIONS FOR ANGOLA

1.    That Angolans continue to heal from 27 years of civil war.
2.    That Angola find resources to resettle 4 million displaced persons.
3.    That landmines be cleared from the countryside.
4.    That the Lord bless Angola with bountiful harvests.
5.    That health services improve for the most vulnerable.
